He holds the engineering degree of professional engineer of mines, E.M., from the Colorado School of Mines. In addition, he is a graduate of the Alexander Hamilton Institute correspondence business program in New York City; a certificate program graduate in civil engineering from Long Beach State University, California; and a graduate of the executive on-campus program in entrepreneurship at the UCLA Anderson School of Management (M.D.E.).
During his years of employment he has also been a freelance writer part-time who offered fiction and creative non-fiction short stories, essays, novellas, and novels for sale to magazine editors and publishers. Mr. Reed is a member of American Writers and Artists Institute (AWAI) and Sherpas Writers in Albuquerque, NM. You can read his most recent newspaper article in the Santa Barbara Independent, California, about a wild plant called yerba santa the Chumas Indians introduced to the early Spanish explorers that some called the miracle cure—and later found to be so effective in curing illness the Spanish Priests called it The Divine Herb. The Pacific Research Institute of Public Policy (PRI), San Franciso, awarded him a Certificate of Honor writing award for his competitive essay on efficiency in government contracting. His cover story in Claims People Magazine, Sacramento, explains how site assessments save environmental claims. The publisher RDR Books, Michigan, included his humorous article, co-authored by Caroline Baca Frye Reed, about an overseas travel experience called Soup Kitchen in their book I Should Have Stayed Home: Food (Copyright 2007).
